Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to action for UFC Fight Night 118: “Cerrone vs. Till,” which went down yesterday (Oct. 21, 2017) inside Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland.
The promotion's latest mixed martial arts (MMA) card was headlined by a Welterweight bout that saw Darren Till absolutely crush Donald Cerrone in just one round. Also, Karolina Kowalkiewicz got back on the winning track by outscoring Jodie Esquibel in the co-main event.
Biggest winner: Darren Till
Who saw that coming? Well, Till sure did, as he predicted a bad ending for “Cowboy” if he opted to let the fight play out on the feet. Till brought it to Cerrone from the jump, swarming the longtime veteran, rarely giving him room to breathe. Late in the round, Darren found his sweet spot and started landing clean shot on Donald, ultimately forcing the stoppage with under a minute left in the fight. With the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) under his belt, Till can now start lobbying for even bigger bouts moving forward after putting the 180-pound division on notice.
Runner Up: Karolina Kowalkiewicz
Karolina need a a win, and bad, and she collected just that after schooling Jodie Esquibel via unanimous decision. The win gives Karolina so much-needed breathing room in her career after dropping two straight. Three losses could’ve been detrimental to her career, but thankfully she was able to pull of the win against a tough foe in her home country.
Biggest Loser: Donald Cerrone
With his loss to Till, “Cowboy” has now dropped three in a row, the worst losing streak of his MMA career that spans 12 years. Granted, Cerrone’s loses have come against some very tough opposition, losing to Jorge Masvidal and Robbie Lawler prior to getting smoked by Till. That said, losses are losses, and Cerrone needs to find a way t oget back on track, and fast, before big fights stop coming his way. Where exactly it;s gone wrong for Cerrone is hard to pinpoint, but one thing is certain, it’s just not the same “Cowboy” we’ve grown accustomed to seeing.
