Conor McGregor caught using homophobic slur to console Artem Lobov backstage at UFC Gdansk

Despite not actually competing inside of the cage, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was all over the place earlier today (Sat., Oct. 21, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 118 from inside Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland. McGregor was there to support Straight Blast Gym teammate Artem Lobov.

Doing more harm than good, McGregor made his presence felt in more than one way. Not only did the UFC superstar get warned for unofficially cornering Lobov from the front row, but he was caught backstage using some not-so-friendly language.

While trying to console Lobov after his unanimous decision loss to Team Alpha Male staple Andre Fili, McGregor apparently referred to “Touchy” as a “f*ggot” more than once. Multiple clips were originally posted by BT Sport UFC’s Twitter account and the UFC’s official Twitter account, but all have since been removed.

Unfortunately for “Notorious,” the footage still exists in other forms.

“I thought you were going to sleep him,” McGregor told Lobov. “All I’m saying, he’s a f*ggot. I never knew he was a f*ggot.”

This really isn’t a good look for McGregor, especially after landing in some hot water for making “racist” comments during the buildup to his boxing superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this year. The 29-year-old Irishman is a huge icon around the combat sports world and must acknowledge the power of the camera at all times.

Neither McGregor nor UFC have responded to the backstage footage at this time. However, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was publicly reprimanded for similar comments last month and instructed to do outreach in the LGBTQ community.

McGregor’s homophobic slur was certainly meant for Lobov’s ears only, but it’s quickly spilling over into public forum.
