Kamaru Usman vs. Emil Meek scheduled for UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Usman vs Alves Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Rising UFC welterweight contender Kamaru Usman will look to extend his 10-fight unbeaten streak when he takes on Norwegian finisher Emil Meek at UFC 219 on Dec. 30 from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout was first reported by Farah Hannoun and then later confirmed by MMA Fighting.

Usman, 29, has been lobbying for a big name since finishing veteran Sergio Moraes via vicious knockout this past September. While Meek isn’t the proven entity Usman needs to jump into the title discussion entering 2018, it’s another chance for “Nigerian Nightmare” to showcase his hard-nosed ground game and overall ability within the top 15.

Meek, 29, rose to mixed martial arts (MMA) stardom when he knocked out Brazilian submission specialist Rousimar Palhares back in 2016. “Valhalla” cashed in on his UFC debut with a decision win over veteran Jordan Mein last December and will now look to leap frog one of the division’s hottest contenders by the end of the year.

UFC 219 currently has no main event in place, but will feature a bantamweight clash between former UFC champion Dominick Cruz and title threat Jimmie Rivera, as well as the return of former interim UFC welterweight king Carlos Condit.
