Bellator 185 just lost its co-main event, thanks to an untimely injury to former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammad Lawal.
Bummer.
Lawal (21-6, 1 NC) was expected to throw hands with former Bellator 205-pound kingpin Liam McGeary as part of the Oct. 20 mixed martial arts (MMA) event inside Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Spike TV.
MMA Junkie first reported the news on Monday.
McGeary is expected to fight a replacement opponent, who should be announced in the coming days. The 12-2 Brit is hoping to rebound from last May’s submission loss to Linton Vassell at Bellator 179, part of a 1-1 stretch since coughing up his title to Phil Davis at Bellator 163.
As for Lawal (21-6, 1 NC), the struggle has been to stay consistent, as well as healthy. The 36-year-old wrestler hasn’t won back-to-back fights since competing in the RIZIN tournament back in late 2015, and the oft-injured “King Mo” recently bailed on his Ryan Bader fight in June.
