Michael Bisping unfazed by heavy Georges St-Pierre UFC 217 promotion - ‘They need to remind people he’s back after he ran away’

If you’ve seen the first promotional trailer for the upcoming Middleweight title fight between division king Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre -- which is set to go down at UFC 217 on No. 4, 2017 in New York — you noticed that a lot of the focus was on “Rush.”

It may be odd due to the fact that Bisping is the defending champion. But according to “The Count,” he isn’t bothered by the St-Pierre-heavy promos, saying that no one needs to be reminded who he is, but rather, they need to be reminded that Georges is back after running away.

“Honestly, I couldn’t care less. I have been fighting in the UFC for a very long time. Twelve years now and you don’t need a reminder that I am here. You need reminding that Georges is back because he is the guy that ran way,” said Bisping during a recent press conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Georges stepped away from the fight game in 2013, citing his battle with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) added with the pressure of being longtime, defending champion.

“Now fair enough, he had a lot of pressure, he was the champion for a long time. That is the narrative of the whole story, he is coming back and stepping up a weight class. So yeah, it doesn’t bother me that there is a bit more limelight on him. At the end of the day it leaves me alone. Filming that stuff takes time. I’ve been in the gym, training,” said “The Count.”

As far as his battles with OCD, St-Pierre admits he has never been officially diagnosed with the disease, but says it’s his obsessiveness to be the best that was wearing him down.

“I have never been diagnosed with OCD. I am saying that I am because I am obsessed. There's a big difference with being obsessed and being obsessive compulsive. I have never been diagnosed, like I said. Maybe I am, maybe I am not. I am not at the point that I open the door three times wherever I go, but, I am obsessed in a way that I am a workaholic and when I want something I will work hard until I obtain it,” he said.

That response, though, didn't sit too well with Bisping, as he pleaded with “Rush” not to make fun of the very real disease.

But, that’s all in the past, it seems, as the ex-170-pound champion is back and will attempt to win his second title in a different division after vacating his own strap four years ago.
