After finishing Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (twice) on Saturday night in their UFC on FOX 23 fight, Jorge Masvidal opened his arms wide and smiled as the boos raining down on him from Cerrone's hometown crowd. This is a fighter who has never had a problem being the bad guy, and leading up to the fight he did his best to stir the pot with brash statements because that's what you gotta do in the McGregor era to get people to pay attention.
But, "Gamebred" let the bad guy persona slip when talking to Megan Olivi backstage about a run-in with Cerrone's famously supportive grandmother (via Bloody Elbow):
“Man, she killed me, man. That was like a heart blow. She just came up to me and she said, ‘that’s my grandson, and you’re a great fighter, and nobody has taken out my grandson like that. I might be a bad guy, but things like that, they get me. I don’t wanna beat nobody in front of their mom or grandma. I have kids, I couldn’t imagine seeing my kids going in there. That hurt a little bit.”
Nice to hear that Donald's grandmother is so gracious in the face of a defeat like that. This must be where "Cowboy" gets his whole not giving a f**k attitude from. What a chill lady.
As for Masvidal, the fight marks his third straight win, and an extremely impressive one at that. We have our doubts as to whether he can continue to pull the trigger consistently, but if he continues to fight with the aggressiveness we saw in this Cerrone fight, there's gonna be a lot of grandmas out there hoping their grandsons don't get matched up against him.
