High octane Featherweight scrappers Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres and Jason Knight collided at UFC on FOX 23 tonight (Sat., Jan. 28, 2017) inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
They traded hands almost immediately. Knight caught a body kick and dove into the clinch, trying to rough up Caceres, who countered a leg kick with a one-two combination as Knight returned the favor a few seconds later. Caceres landed a high kick, followed up by a double punch. Knight looked to work his jab. Caceres evaded a combination with nice head movement. Knight dove for a clinch, Caceres wriggled free. Caceres landed another rear straight. Knight threw a high kick, then countered a leg kick with a rear straight that dropped Caceres briefly. He picked up Caceres and dumped him to the canvas, then took his back in a scramble and nearly locked up a rear-naked choke standing up, but gave it up before the bell sounded.
Caceres came out for the second round working his angles and kicks, throwing a leg kick and hard body kick. He landed a right hand, but Knight countered and shucked him off in the clinch. They tied up again and Knight threw him nicely with a judo toss. He got top position in the ensuing scramble, and as Bruce Leeroy tried to regain his footing, took his back. He looked for the rear-naked choke, but when he didn’t get it right away he began landing elbows and shots from back control, locking up a body triangle. He went for another choke that came closer, but Caceres fought it off again. He didn’t give up, and eventually found his opening to finish via painful-looking rear naked choke.
In the post-fight interview — in a win dedicated to his deceased father — Knight knelt on the canvas with the microphone and thanked God for the win. He called out the “Korean Superboy,” Doo Ho Choi, in what would doubtless be a crackerjack fight.
Official result: Jason Knight def. Alex Caceres via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:21 of round 2
