Al Iaquinta eyes UFC return at 170 pounds, where he would be ‘faster than everybody’

Maybe Al is no longer raging?

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight Al Iaquinta, who abandoned his mixed martial arts (MMA) career to chase success in real estate, is contemplating a return to the Octagon in late 2017.

But don’t expect any more cuts to 155 pounds.

That’s according to his conversation with Submission Radio, in which the former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) laid out a possible scenario — as well as possible opponents — for another crack at combat sports.

His words:

"I think Thiago Alves. He couldn’t make 155, so I’d be willing to go up to 170 if he just wants to chill out. I’ll go up to 170 and fight him. I think that’d be good, that’d be fun. Who knows, maybe I’ll stay at 170. I fought Jorge Masvidal at 155, he went up to 170 and he’s doing good, so I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to do good. I’d be faster than everybody. The strength would be something I’d have to deal with, but I’ve sparred with 170-pounders in the gym all the time and I do great. So I think that might be a definite option for me.”

I’m sure it helps that this guy is gone.

Iaquinta was scheduled to welcome Thiago Alves to the lightweight division at the UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) event last November in his home state of New York; however, his contract did not meet expectations and “Raging Al” made the decision to withdraw and sit on his remaining three fights.

For how long, remains to be seen.
