The troubled saga of Oscar De La Hoya continues, as the "Golden Boy" was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in Pasadena, Calif., on Wednesday night (Jan. 25, 2017) The boxing Hall-of-Famer was reportedly spotted at multiple bars before being pulled over and ultimately brought in at 2:00 AM.
That's according to TMZ.
De La Hoya has publicly struggled with substance abuse in the past, including two stints in rehab for both alcohol and drugs. His company, Golden Boy Promotions, has seen tumult as well in spats with Al Haymon and former chief executive Richard Schaefer.
His storied boxing career featured bouts with the likes of Pernell Whittaker, Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Manny Pacquiao. The Pacquiao fight was his last, ending his 16-year career with a record of 39-6 with 30 knockouts.
The main hope at this point is that Oscar gets the help he needs so as not to endanger himself or others. We have more than enough cautionary tales in the combat sports world.
