Following his shocking defeat of Luke Rockhold for the UFC middleweight title, many wondered how long new champion Michael Bisping would be able to hold onto his belt. With the 185 pound division stacked with a long line of killers, the Count's chances for survival seemed limited.
But then Bisping asked for and was granted a title defense against Dan Henderson in October. He followed this up with an offer to save the injury plagued UFC 206 card in Toronto with a fight against Georges St. Pierre, something that unfortunately didn't come together.
After that fell through, he quickly removed himself from further matchmaking possibilities by declaring he was suffering from an orbital injury. That raised the eyebrows of many who wondering how he was healthy enough to challenge GSP but not, say, a contender like Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza. And we imagine the same people will have some doubts about this latest news that Bisping will remain too injured to fight until May.
Michael Bisping recently found out he will need knee surgery for slightly torn meniscus in next few weeks, hopes to fight around May

Following his flying knee knockout of Chris Weidman at UFC 205, Yoel Romero was the latest beast to be put at the front of the middleweight queue. But with Bisping out until May, with the 'Soldier of God' decide to wait for his shot? With Chris Weidman and Gegard Mousasi set to fight at UFC 210 in Buffalo, sitting on the sidelines could cost him enough heat to put his promised title shot at risk. Obviously taking another fight carries its own risks as well. Either way, Yoel may not be the front runner to fight Michael Bisping by the time the British champion is ready to return in May.
For some reason, we think that might be perfectly fine by Bisping.
