Even without a main event in place, UFC 205 on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, has already lost one its most anticipated bouts. Just goes to show you that even a brand new market as big as NYC isn't immune to the mixed martial arts (MMA) scheduling bug.
Per a report by TMZ Sports, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight king Robbie Lawler has pulled out of his main card tilt with divisional newcomer Donald Cerrone, who has gone 3-0 at welterweight since moving up from 155 pounds. According to MMA Fighting, "Ruthless" withdrew from UFC 205 after having his fight announced just days ago because he needs more time to recover after losing his 170-pound title to Tyron Woodley via first-round knockout back at UFC 201 this past July. UFC is actively pursuing a replacement opponent for "Cowboy."
This is crushing news for the former champion's comeback tour. Lawler was setting himself up to challenge one of the hottest fighters in the division in Cerrone on arguably the biggest MMA card of all time. He will be given more time to recoup, but may regret letting this one slip through his fingers.
