Work? Shoot? WWE stars had their feelings hurt by UFC champ Conor McGregor

Getting hit with a steel chair? No problem. Being insulted by reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight titleholder Conor McGregor?

That’s according to former pro wrestler CM Punk, left scratching his head by all the hurt butts in WWE last month. That’s when "Notorious" used social media to poke fun at some of the industry’s top wrestlers including John Cena and Ric Flair, among others.

"A lot of feelings were hurt, though, I can tell you that much, which I thought was a little strange," Punk told MMA Fighting. "The amount of people who responded to him made me feel like they were told to respond to him. There's always grey areas when you involve that whole scene and you're wondering, is this a work, is this not a work?"

See the back-and-forth exchange here.

Punk will have a chance to prove his transition to mixed martial arts (MMA) was not a "work" — scripted for the advancement of a particular storyline — when he steps into the cage against Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

Where more than just feelings have the potential to be hurt.
