Ryan Bader (21-5) is now the all-time wins leader in the UFC light heavyweight division.
"Darth" stunned the European crowd earlier today (Sat., Sept. 3, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 93 with a gorgeous knockout victory over Ilir Latifi (12-5).
Bader, 33, landed a perfectly placed step-in knee on Latifi to pick up his fourteenth career UFC victory inside Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. The official time of the stoppage came at 2:06 in the second round.
Latifi moved in on a takedown early in the first, but Bader defended it. "Darth" avoided two more takedowns in the round, but didn't mount much offense aside from a few body kicks. Toward the end of the first, Latifi dropped Bader with a big right hand, but the No.4 ranked UFC light heavyweight got right back up to his feet.
In the second, Bader shot in on a takedown and Latifi successfully sprawled in defense. The Sweden native grabbed a front headlock, but Bader made it back up to his feet. Bader connected on a right hand, but Latifi clinched up in defense.
The end came seconds later.
As Latifi was changing levels for a takedown attempt, Bader connected flush with a well-timed step-in knee, sending Latifi crashing to the canvas. Bader walked off with his hands raised in triumph as referee Neil Hall waved off the bout.
Outstanding win for Bader, who rebounds after a brutal knockout loss to Anthony Johnson in his last fight at UFC on FOX 18 this past January. He improves to 14-5 in the promotion. Tough loss for Latifi, who was looking quite good until getting caught by the fight-ending knee of Bader. Latifi drops to 5-3 in UFC and has his three-fight win streak snapped in defeat.
