Another fight in Germany for "The Sergeant" and another victory.
Nick Hein (14-2 1NC) defeated Tae Hyun Bang (18-1) by unanimous decision earlier today (Sat., Sept. 3, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 93 inside Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. The win marks the German native's third in his home country in five career Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights.
All three judges scored it in favor of Hein (29-28, 30-28 and 30-27).
Hein, 32, scored some timely takedowns and did just enough in the striking department to pick up the victory. There wasn't much action early on in the first round until Hein connected on a left hook with about three and a half minutes left. Hein scored a takedown moments later and began operating from Bang's half guard with heavy top pressure, but the German native was unable to capitalize and Bang made it back up to his feet.
In the second, Hein ate a couple of strikes while moving inside to secure a body lock and pressed the South Korean up against the fence in search of a takedown. The fight returned to the center of the Octagon where the action remained at a stalemate with both fighters failing to connect on big punches. Hein scored a trip for a takedown with just over one minute left in the round. Bang made it back up to his feet and scored a nice hip throw to take Hein to the mat. Hein made it back up to his feet soon after. The crowd let out a chorus of boos as the round concluded.
In the third, an accidental clash of heads opened up a cut above the right eyebrow of Bang, which led to a brief halt in the action. When the bout resumed, Hein connected with a big punch, which wobbled Bang briefly, but it wasn't enough to put him into any significant trouble. Bang was able to avoid getting taken down for the remainder of the round. Hein landed a solid left right before the fight came to an end.
It wasn't an action-packed fight, but Hein did what he had to do to get his hand raised. He improves to 4-1 in UFC. Bang drops to 2-3 in UFC in defeat.
