Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva and Roy Nelson went toe-to-toe at UFC Fight Night 95 tonight (Sept. 24, 2016) in Brasilia, Brazil, in a Heavyweight fight that saw the bruisers put aside their friendship for one night only to take care of business inside the Octagon. The first frame saw both men rather tentative, as Nelson was intent on diving in, getting some shots in and bolting out. Silva, meanwhile, showed some patience, utilizing his front kick to try and keep Nelson at bay, a strategy that seemed to work for the most part.
Round two started off with both men exchanging punches and kicks, while Silva did his best to throw off Nelson from his gameplan by constantly switching stances. "Bigfoot" also showed some tenacity, as he ate a couple of Nelson's right hands. After a pause in action due to a low blow on the part of Silva, "Bigfoot" failed a couple of takedown attempts, and ate a huge right straight from "Big Country." And with less than one minute left, Nelson found his mark with a HUGE uppercut that floored the Brazilian.
What followed was an onslaught of strikes to put an end to the fight. And you saw the respect Nelson has for Silva, as he stopped punching, signaling to John McCarthy that his friend was done. He even gave the long-time official a kick to the rear-end -- as well as the middle finger -- to show his displeasure as he was tending to "Bigfoot" on the canvas (watch video highlights here).
The loss marks "Bigfoot's" third straight and five of six overall. The alarming issue is that all of his defeats have come via knockout. Might want to re-think those retirement plans, Bigfoot.
