Claudia Gadelha cuts ties with Nova Uniao following argument with head coach Andres Pederneiras

Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

Things aren't always good on the home front. Just ask Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha, who has officially cut ties with gym Nova Uniao following an argument with head coach Andres Pederneiras, per a report by Combate (h/t Bloody Elbow).

Gadelha, 27, just lost her rematch with current 115-pound champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk back at TUF 23 Finale this past July following a coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter. The over-the-phone argument she had with Pederneiras apparently stemmed from Gadelha questioning her training camp leading into her title fight with Jedrzejczyk. Pederneiras took exception, Gadelha stuck to her guns and the two Brazilians parted ways.

According to the report, Gadelha currently runs her own gym in Pennsylvania, called Claudia Gadelha's MMA and BJJ Academy, but will head back to Brazil before her next Octagon appearance to train at Kimura Nova Uniao under the tutelage of head coach Jair Lourenco, who currently handles the likes of Renan Barao and Jussier Formiga.

While Gadelha was Nova Uniao's most recognizable female fighter, it's nearly impossible to forge greatness inside of the cage if a fighter and coach aren't on the same page. Gadelha will attempt to reclaim her divisional footing sometime before the end of 2016.
