Before Dustin Poirier and Michael Johnson ever exchanged leather tonight (Sat., Sept. 17, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 94 live from State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, a plethora of preliminary action filled the FOX Sports 1 air. The "Prelims" headliner pitted Mexico's Gabriel Benitez against the hard hitting Sam Sicilia, who was coming off a quick knockout loss to Doo Ho Choi last November.
After fending off Sicilia's best stuff on the feet to begin the contest, Benitez utilized tremendous inside leg kicks to slow the power puncher down. Benitez landed a flush right hand to Sicilia's chin that dropped him in Round 2 before Sicilia leaped in for a lazy takedown and paid the price. "Moggly" sunk in a nasty standing guillotine choke that put Sicilia to sleep.
The memorable submission finish can be seen below courtesy of UFC on FOX.

With this win, Benitez shows that he's more than capable of finishing fights outside of his striking. He may have utilized the energy being given off by a Mexican-heavy Texas crowd, but his skills are legit. If he can continue to evolve, he may threaten the featherweight top 15 in 2017.
