Kell Brook gave a heroic effort earlier today (Sept. 10, 2016), stepping up two weight classes to take on the terrifying Gennady Golovkin inside O2 Arena in London, England. However, his body simply couldn't stand up to the punishment. Brook (36-1, 25 KO) -- a massive underdog to the Middleweight kingpin -- proved himself Golovkin's (36-0, 33 KO) toughest foe to date, landing heavy combinations and deftly dodging the champ's murderous swings. Unfortunately for "Special K," an early left hook damaged his orbital and, as the body shots piled up, he became less and less able to protect it. Midway through the fifth round, Golovkin landed a heavy flurry on the ropes. Brook raised his arms, trying to laugh it off, but had to grab the ropes to maintain his balance. "GGG" continued pouring it on until Brook's trainer, Dom Ingle, stepped onto the ring apron and threw in the towel. After the fight, Golovkin called out Billy Joe Saunders for a unification bout. Saunders ducked Golovkin earlier this year as part of the train of unwilling opponents that led to Brook stepping up in the first place.
