In one of the more fan-friendly matchups the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight division has to offer, current champion Stipe Miocic will test his budding knockout power against world-class kickboxer Alistair Overeem later today (Sat., Sept. 10, 2016) at UFC 203 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. It will be Miocic's first title defense since capturing the title back at UFC 198 and he'll be doing it in front of his hometown.
On paper, this is an incredible matchup of heavy punchers who offer outstanding striking skills fueled by patient output, world-class distance control, perfectly-timed setups and the innate ability to finish fights in devastating fashion. So while many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will collect around the television screen to see CM Punk make his Octagon debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203, Miocic vs. Overeem may end of being one of the best main events of 2016.
To help us sift through the tantalizing heavyweight clash and pinpoint the strengths and tendencies of each combatant, we turn our attention to the always prepared and well-versed Robin Black, who breaks down Miocic vs. Overeem in the above video (courtesy of UFC). With crushing knockout power, footwork, counter attacks and the desire to be the best in the business, Miocic and Overeem will presumably stand and deliver once they enter the Octagon at UFC 203.
That's all we could hope for as the newly crowned champ tries to earn his first successful title defense.
