Chris Weidman calling for Luke Rockhold rematch at UFC 205 in New York

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

After losing out to Dan Henderson in the middleweight championship race, former division champion Chris Weidman is moving on.

Which is why he recently stated on The MMA Hour that he is eyeing a rematch against Luke Rockhold, the man who dethroned him at UFC 194 via technical knockout. To sweeten the pot, "All American" wants it to go down at UFC 205, which is set to go down at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 12, 2016.

His words:

"I haven't heard a word. I have reached out, but I don't know what's going to happen. I would like to have the biggest fight I could possibly have at Madison Square Garden. It's always been my dream to fight as MSG. I'd like a fight that everybody is getting excited about, a fight everyone wants to see. I don't know who gives that to me. I think redemption against Luke Rockhold would probably be the biggest in my eyes. So I think that's the fight I want. You have 'Jacare,' Yoel Romero, and then you have some of the old timers with the big names, Anderson Silva and other guys like that. I don't know who it's going to be, honestly. I'm going to put it in UFC's hands. Whoever they decide to give me they will give me, but, if I had to pick it would be Luke. I think we are the two best in the division and I would like to fight the best guy, especially a guy who beat me. I want to get that one back, especially in front of a home crowd in MSG. That would be a great one."

Weidman was set to face Rockhold at UFC 199 earlier this month in a championship rematch, but an unfortunate neck injury forced him out of the title fight that ultimately paved the way for Bisping to shock the world.

After undergoing neck surgery, Weidman is itching to get back into the cage, and since Rockhold currently has an empty dance card, it makes all the sense in the world to re-book the bout.

And who knows, if the stars align, the men could be fighting for the vacant 185-pound title, as Henderson plans to ride into the sunset should he defeat Bisping one month prior.
