I hate to bring you this sort of thing right before lunch, but why must I suffer alone?
Top mixed martial arts (MMA) featherweight prospect Erick Sanchez, who trains out of Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif., was bounced from next week's Combate Americas headliner as a result of his gnarly staph infection seen in the embedded video above.
Still doesn't beat this, but then again, what does?
Replacing Sanchez is 145-pound standout John Castaneda, facing off against Angel Cruz in the three-round main event at "Aspira A Mas Presents Combate Americas: Combate OCHO." In addition, UFC veteran Danny Martinez takes over for the injured Jonathan Martinez against Benjamin Vinson.
The atomweight matchup between Kyra Batara and Lisa Ellis was scrapped after "Mogwai" succumbed to a hamstring injury.
"We wish Erick, Jonathan and Kyra speedy and full recoveries, and have the utmost respect for John Castaneda and Danny Martinez, two ferocious warriors who did not hesitate to accept our offers to face super tough opponents in the top two fights on our card, on short notice," said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren.
"Aspira A Mas Presents Combate Americas: Combate OCHO," taking place inside Exchange L.A. in Los Angeles, Calif., on Thurs., Aug. 11, 2016, will stream live on UFC Fight Pass (9:30 pm ET | 6:30 pm PT), as well as Bein Sports en Espanol (11 pm ET | 8 pm PT).
