Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing mixed martial arts (MMA) fans free fisticuffs this Saturday night (Aug. 27, 2016) by way of the UFC on FOX 21: "Maia vs. Condit" combat sports event, taking place inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

That's where top welterweight contenders Demian Maia and Carlos Condit will throw down, with the winner having a very strong argument for the next crack at the division crown. In the UFC on FOX 21 co-main event, former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis makes his featherweight debut opposite Charles Oliveira.

170 lbs.: Demian Maia vs. Carlos Condit

Round 1: Maia on the front foot early. Maia shoots for a single-leg and runs the pipe, putting Condit on his back thirty seconds in. Maia on top in half guard, one minute in. Condit tries to scramble and Maia takes his back. Maia works the choke on his chin, then slides it under until Condit, with heartbreaking hesitation, taps out.

Final result: Maia def. Condit by submission (rear-naked choke)


145 lbs.: Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis

Round 1: Pettis fires a knee to the body and Oliveira shoots in. Pettis defending on the fence. Oliveira looking for a single-leg, struggling to finish it. One minute in. Pettis circles away. Oliveira avoids an overhand right and again ties up. He moves to the rear waistlock and takes the back. Oliveira looking to pin an arm with his leg. Pettis manages to turn into his guard. Two minutes in. He stands and they separate. Oliveira looks for a single-leg, no dice and Pettis waves him up. Nasty body kick from Pettis. Another once and this one folds Oliveira. the Brazilian falls to his back, still dangerous, and Pettis bashes him with punches. Two minutes to go.

Pettis dropping hard punches and takes side control. Oliveira slips out the back door and takes top position. He looks for the back, but Pettis rolls into guard again and punishes with punches. One minute to go. Pettis posturing up, standing over Oliveira and avoiding the upkicks as he rains down ground-and-pound. 10-9 Pettis.

Round 2: Body kick from Oliveira. He's still stalking forward. Pettis plugs the body with left hands and reverses a takedown. Oliveira looks for the back but winds up on his back again. Pettis waves him up. Head kick from Pettis lands through the guard. 1-2 by Oliveira. Sharp right hook. One minute in. Oliveira slips on a kick, tries to pull guard, Pettis doesn't bite. Left hook from the Brazilian. 1-2 by Pettis. Right hand after a front kick. Oliveira's left eye is swelling up. Oliveira body kick and left hook, met by a right hook. Oliveira forces him back, lands a knee on the fence. Oliveira pressuring well and they trade body shots. Two minutes in. Oliveira briefly tires up on the fence. He's doing alright for himself on the feet and he grabs the bodylock. Rear waistlock now. He jumps onto Pettis' back and Pettis goes to the mat as Oliveira cinches up the body triangle. Two minutes to go.

Oliveira still looking for the choke. Oliveira tries to adjust his triangle and Pettis uses the opportunity to roll into top position. Pettis tries to wave him up, but Oliveira shoots in. One minute to go. Right hook by Pettis. 1-2 lands and Oliveira cracks him with an elbow and body shot. Spinning back kick from Pettis. 1-2 by Pettis and Oliveira puts him on his back before the bell. 10-9 Oliveira.

Round 3: Oliveira marching forward. He shoots in and puts Pettis on his back in guard. Side control for Olivaira. Pettis slaps on an armbar, nothing there and he eats an elbow. One minute in. Pettis uses the fence to try to slip out and winds up on top in the ensuing scramble. North-south for Pettis. Oliveira slips out and shoots in, only for Pettis to slap on a murderous guillotine. Oliveira tries to stack him, but quickly taps to the choke.

Final result: Pettis def. Oliveira by submission (guillotine)


115 lbs.: Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant

Round 1: Low kick from VanZant. Rawlings on the advance, avoids a jumping switch kick. Combo from Rawlings. One minute in. Quick swings and they exchange in the clinch. They separate. Rawlings doing well with punching flurries. Two minutes in. PVZ looks for a tornado kick. Two minutes to go.

Right hand from Rawlings as VanZant spins. Uppercut, straight right, flurry in the clinch. VanZant's looking for the Thai plum but getting tagged when she tries. PVZ with a flurry. PVZ lands a solid body kick, eats punches inside. One minute to go. PVZ looking more aggressive in the latter stages of the round. Rawlings still controlling the inside. 10-9 Rawlings.

Round 2: Out of nowhere, VanZant leaps in with a jumping switch kick and catches Rawlings flush in the face. The Aussie crashes down, barely clinging to consciousness, and VanZant bashes away with hammerfists until Big Dan steps in.

Final result: VanZant def. Rawlings by TKO (head kick and punches)


155 lbs.: Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller

Round 1: Lauzon comes out aggressively. Miller goes low-high and lands a heavy body kick. Lauzon catches it and rolls for a heel hook, can't get it and shoots in. Miller stuffs it and lands a knee. Miller landing well on the counter so far. One minute in. Lauzon ties up on the fence and they trade knees. Straight left from Miller as Lauzon advances. Straight right from Lauzon and a knee to the body. 2-1 from Lauzon and he clinches. Elbow from Lauzon. Hard knee from Miller on the exit, two minutes in. Lauzon lands a right hand as Miller spins and the latter slips, allowing Lauzon to take half guard. Two minutes to go.

Short shots from Lauzon. Knee to the body. Miller regains guard. Lauzon stands over him and Miller manages to stand, cracking Lauzon with an uppercut. Nice check hook. Good body shot from Miller. One minute to go. Another thudding left downstairs. Nice punching combinations by Miller. Miller blasts in, can't get Lauzon down. Miller slams home a combo before the bell. 10-9 Miller.

Round 2: Miller finding success with punches early. He tries a high kick, puts a left in Lauzon's breadbasket. Right downstairs. One minute in. Left hook, right hand from Lauzon. He continues to pressure as Miller dings away with combinations. Big counter left by Miller. Two minutes in. Counter right from Lauzon hits home. Miller again to the body. Body kick. Check hook lands for Lauzon. Miller cracks him with an elbow. Two minutes to go.

Miller lands a body kick and slips to the mat, allowing Lauzon to briefly take mount. Miller regains half guard and eats an elbow. Miller goes for mission control. One minute to go. Elbows by Lauzon, Miller gets guard. Sneaky knee by Lauzon and more elbows before the bell. 10-9 Lauzon.

Round 3: Powerful combos early from Miller. Miller battering Lauzon with head shots. Lauzon roars back with a big right hand. One minute in. Lauzon still wading forward. Stiff jab met by a straight left. Lauzon shoots and gets Miller down on the fence. Lauzon looking for half guard, gets it. Two minutes in. Full mount for Lauzon, Miller regains half guard. Miller not doing much to stand as Lauzon works his way forward. Two minutes to go.

Miller goes to his knees and Lauzon tries to rip him off the fence. He can't do so and Miller looks for the back, eating an elbow as he shoots. Lauzon pops up and they separate. Right hand by Lauzon and a left to the body as he clinches. One minute to go. Miller flubs a throw and Lauzon looks for the rear waistlock. Granby roll by Miller, Lauzon stays on top. Lauzon takes mount and fights for an armbar at the bell. 10-9 Lauzon.

Final result: Miller def. Lauzon by split decision


185 lbs.: Sam Alvey vs. Kevin Casey

Round 1: Casey staying at range, tossing out kicks and body shots. One minute in. Still pretty much nothing from Alvey, as expected. Two minutes in. Alvey catches a low kick and Casey shoots. Casey working hard for the takedown. Two minutes to go.

Alvey grabs the plum, knees the body. Uppercut from Casey. Casey scores a brief takedown, can't keep him down. One minute to go. Knees by Alvey. They trade knees to the body. Elbows by Alvey, a hard kne, and a flurry before the bell. 10-9 Alvey, I guess.

Round 2: Casey sticks out a jab. Left lands for him. One minute in. Casey with leg kicks. Alvey with a right downstairs. More jabs by Casey. Flurry from Alvey. BIG left hand and down goes Casey. He tries to pound him out, can't do so, and waves Casey up. Two minutes in. Alvey with some more life in him now, stalking forward. Two minutes to go.

Straight left by Casey. Alvey looking for 1-2s. 3-2 dings Casey. Hard counter left forces Casey to tie up, he eats a knee before they separate. One minute to go. Not a lot from Casey at the moment. Alvey slings a four-piece combo and the left at the end knocks Casey down again. Alvey blasts him with ground-and-pound until the referee steps in.

Final result: Alvey def. Casey by TKO (punches)


145 lbs.: Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak

Round 1: Barzola catches a low kick, can't land the counter. Bochniak low kick. One minute in. Lead right by Bochniak, counters come back. Barzola tossing out kicks. Barzola leg kick. Two minutes in. Another leg kick. Wheel kick attempt and a teep as Bochniak tries to rush. They tie upon the fence for a second. Bochniak leg kick. Two minutes in.

Barzola just misses with a spinning back fist. Good knee inside. Bochniak lands a leg kick, then takes advantage of a spin to score a takedown. Half guard for Bochniak. Bochniak tries to go to mount and Barzola scrambles up, clinching on the cage. One minute to go. Barzol lands a knee on the exit. Bochniak low kick and a hard right hand that stings Barzola. Both try takedowns, nothing there. Barzola tries to catch a kick, can't use it. 10-9 Barzola.

Round 2: Good right hand by Bochniak, who eats a leg kick. Nice uppercut by Barzola rattles him. Bochniak right hand. Barzola shoots, can't keep him down. One minute in. Teep from the Peruvian. Both whiff on combinations. Barzola tries to spin. Right by Bochniak, leg kick lands and Barzola trips him down. He pops back up. Two minutes in. Barzola again tries to catch a leg kick. Leg kick of his own after trying to counter Bochniak's. Two minutes to go.

Neither man's landing very clean with their punches at the moment. Barzola body kick and Bochniak lands a left hook. Counter right by Barzola off a low kick. 1-2 by Bochniak. Body kick-left hand by Barzola. Barzola ducks a right hand and hits a pair of takedowns in the scramble. 10-9 Barzola.

Round 3: More quick movement to start the round. Barzola catches a low kick and comes back with a body kick. One minute in. Right hand from Bochniak and a long combination, leg kick afterwards. Bochniak looking more aggressive this round. Barzola leg kick. Two minutes in. Bochniak slings some 1-2s, eats a counter right. Barzola nearly hits a reactive takedown. 1-2 from Bochniak. Two minutes to go.

Barzola hits a double-leg off a low kick, can't keep him down. Barzola again catches a leg kick but can't use it. One minute to go. Bochniak shoots, can't get it. They trade inside after Bochniak stuffs a takedown. Teep by Barzola. Right hand from Bochniak, running after Barzola. Barzola waves him on before the bell. 10-9 Bochniak.

Final result: Bochniak def. Barzola by split decision


185 lbs.: Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan

Round 1: Di Chirico with a counter right early on. He lands it two more times, all off of leg kicks, and ties up on the fence. They jockey for position. One minute in. Di Chirico with a combo on the exit. Counter left hook lands clean. McLellan tries a head kick, lands a hard lead uppercut. Straight left and body kick, caught. Two minutes in. Di Chirico bleeding rom above his left eye, still looking for counter. Both land lefts. McLellan to the body, Two minutes to go.

Di Chirico tries to go high, eats a low kick. Counter right from the Italian. McLellan lands that same uppercut once again. Combination by the South African, then body shots. One minute to go. Di Chirico goes for a knee tap, no dice. Still looking for counters. McLellan jumps for a knee as Di Chirico spins and they briefly clinch. 10-9 McLellan.

Round 2: Check hook by Di Chirico. McLellan hits a nice takedown, setting up in guard. Di Chirico scrambles to his feet, McLellan attached to his leg, and crushes him with Browne elbows. The South African falls and Di Chirico pounces, but can't finish him off. McLellan makes it to his feet and they trade inside. Left hook by McLellan. He looks winded, eats a straight right. Di Chirico ties up on the fence. Two minutes in. They separate and Di Chirico lands right hands. McLellan shoots, stuffed. Di Chirico catches a kick and scores a takedown of his own. Half guard for the Italian. Two minutes to go.

Good scramble by McLellan and he gets to his feet. Counter right from Di Chirico. He tries to spin and they exchange at point-blank. McLellan is running out of steam. Spinning elbow from Di Chirico and some clinchwork. McLellan answering on the inside with uppercuts. One minute to go. McLellan changes levels, Di Chirico stuffs it and reverses position on the fence. Di Chirico smacks him a few more times before the bell. 10-9 Di Chirico.

Round 3: 1-2 from McLellan and he stuffs a double-leg. Hard right hand upstairs. Left hook by Di Chirico. McLellan shoots, gets briefly tripped. He pops up, so Di Chirico scores another takedown. McLellan has a headlock but Chirico's on the wrong side in half guard. Di Chirico hops to mount and takes the back as McLellan stands. He's a little high and McLellan manages to take top position. Half guard now. Two minutes in. Di Chirico gets his feet under him and stands. Elbow by the Italian. Big 2-3 has McLellan retreating. He comes back with a 1-2, eats a big counter right. Two minutes to go.

Di Chirico cracks him with a straight right and a knee, so McLellan changes levels. Elbows by Di Chirico as he defends. They separate and McLellan shoots again. They separate. Right hand by Di Chirico. One minute to go. They're both exhausted. McLellan shoots and spins Di Chirico to the mat. The Italian elbows his body as McLellan stays attached to his hips. Di Chirico tries to scramble up before the bell. 10-9 Di Chirico.

Final result: Di Chirico def. McLellan by split decision


155 lbs.: Shane Campbell vs. Felipe Silva

Round 1: Leg kick and counter right from Campbell as Silva wades into the plum. Knees by the Brazilian, elbow on the break. Campbell leg kick. Campbell avoids a flurry, lands a counter right. One minute in. Silva digs in a body shot, then clubs him with a combo over the top that knocks him to the mat. Campbell curls up, feeling the effects of the body shot, and Silva slams home punches until the ref steps in.

Final result: Silva def. Campbell by TKO (punches)


155 lbs.: Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise

Round 1: Laprise with an early leg kick and left hook. Another leg kick, eats an uppercut. Check hook by the Canadian and they tie up. One minute in. Laprise pressing him against the cage. They separate and Gouti chases after him, only to get plunked with a counter right that takes his legs out. Gouti tries desperately to stagger back to his feet, eating punches all the way, only to get dropped again by an uppercut from behind. The referee rushes in to save the still-scrambled Gouti for Laprise's first UFC finish.

Final result: Laprise def. Gouti by TKO (punches)


155 lbs.: Jeremy Kennedy vs. Alex Ricci

Round 1: Both land short punches in the first ten seconds. Right hand from Kennedy and he ties up on the fence. Ricci reverses as the crowd chants "JBC." Short knees by Ricci to the knees and thighs. One minute in. Kenedy again pressing him against the cage, eats a knee to the gut and separates. Knees by Ricci and Kennedy cracks him with punches inside. Another shot from Kennedy. Two minutes in. Good elbow by Kennedy on the break. Another hard knee by Ricci. Body kick this time, Kennedy ties up once again and fights for an outside trip. Two minutes to go.

Elbow by Ricci, Kennedy answers in kind and they separate. Kennedy swings and ducks back in. One minute to go. Ricci lands a knee from the plum, eats a body kick, lands a head kick before the next shot. Kennedy gets him down this time, can't keep him there. Ricci presses him against the fence with the bodylock until the bell. 10-9 Kennedy.

Round 2: Ricci again opens with a knee and they exchange punches. Kennedy aggressive, changes levels for a takedown. Ricci defending with over-unders. One minute in. They trade some short knees and Kennedy brings him to a knee. Ricci pops up to his feet, eats a pair of elbows before they separate. Kennedy steps right back into the clinch. Two minutes to go.

Knee to the body by Kennedy and they trade hard blows before the next takedown attempt. He gets him to his seat on the fence. Ricci gets to his feet and takes outside position on the fence. One minute to go. The referee breaks them up. Kennedy forces Ricci back to the fence with punches and ties up once more before the bell. 10-9 Kennedy.

Round 3: Ricci backs to the fence again and Kennedy slugs his way back to the clinch. Ricci grabs the plum and looks for a takedown. Kennedy reverses position on the cage. One minute in. Ricci reverses, eats a right hand as Kennedy shoots. He pulls Ricci's hips out and takes him down. Ricci works his way up. Riicci looks for an anaconda as Kennedy pulls him down again. Two minutes to go.

Kennedy pops his head free. Ricci just can't make space. One minute to go. Another takedown by Kennedy he tries to drop punches before the bell. 10-9 Kennedy.

Final result: Kennedy def. Ricci by unanimous decision
