UFC 202 results: Anthony Johnson obliterates Glover Teixeira with 13-second knockout

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Top-ranked Light Heavyweight contenders Anthony Johnson (No. 1) and Glover Teixeira (No. 2) locked horns tonight (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) in a true eliminator match, with the winner earning the next title shot against reigning 205-pound champion, Daniel Cormier, down the road.

And it's time to "Rumble" once more with 205-pound champion Daniel Cormier, as Johnson punched his ticket to a rematch with a blistering 13-second knockout of Teixeira this evening.

Teixeira, for whatever reason, looked to close the distance early, putting the pressure on Johnson to presumably close the distance. He landed a glancing left hook, which Johnson countered with a few light touches. Teixeira uncorked another left, but then waded in a bit too deep with his head down  Johnson took a step back and landed a devastating uppercut that sent Teixeira -- who has never before been finished by strikes -- crashing to the canvas, unconscious in a heap of lifeless flesh. Johnson dove in to finish the job, landing two hammer fists before the referee could peel him off.

Ringside announcer Joe Rogan said it best: Anthony Johnson is a terrifying human being. He has otherworldly power, especially early in fights, and is power-punching force like no other in UFC today. Good luck, Daniel, you are a tougher man than most mortals, including Johnson, for now.
