UFC 202 results: Tim Means splits Sabah Homasi with vicious elbows, scores blood-soaked technical knockout

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 alum, Sabah Homasi, stepped up on short notice tonight (Sat., Aug. 20, 2016) to make his Octagon debut, taking on super tough Welterweight veteran Tim Means in the opening pay-per-view (PPV) match at UFC 202, which took place inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was a tall order, literally, as the 6'2" Means has won five of his last seven bouts since returning to UFC back in May 2014. Too tall, apparently, as "Dirty Bird" beat and busted up Homasi with precision, skin-splitting elbows en route to a second round technical knockout.

Means -- a southpaw -- made his presence known early, drilling Homasi with a hard left cross. Homasi countered with low kicks, perhaps his attempt to keep the longer fighter at a safe distance. After a brief scramble on the mat, Means stalked Homasi, finding a home for his left hand. Trapped along the fence, Homasi began to rip combinations, but they glanced off Means' face, seemingly having no affect. Homasi then secured a takedown, but Means was able to return to his feet easily, catching him along the cage with a mean elbow that split Homasi's wig. Sensing blood in the water, literally, Means landed two more vicious elbow to Homasi's forehead.

Homasi -- totally exhausted -- was eventually saved by the bell, returning to his corner a bloody mess. However, it was clear that the writing was already on the wall -- Means poured it on to start the second stanza and Homasi was unable to offer much of anything in return. More hellacious elbows, as well as hard kicks to the mid-section -- and even numerous Stockton slaps -- ultimately led to Homasi's blood-soaked downfall. Homasi demonstrated tremendous heart and guts, but mercifully, referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the bout before he sustained additional -- and unnecessary damage.

Means is a very dangerous dude who should more than likely earn a step up in competition, as well as a Top 15 ranking, moving forward.
