Bellator 159 "Caldwell vs. Taimanglo" takes place July 22, 2016 at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas. The promotion apparently felt it needed a little less baggage before its trip from the O2 Arena in London, England, to the Midwest as seven Bellator fighters have just been cut loose.

Bellator 159 "Caldwell vs. Taimanglo" comes to Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas, on July 22, 2016. The featured fight in the main event that night is a bantamweight showdown between "The Wolf" Darrion Caldwell and "Juggernaut" Joe Taimanglo, winner of three straight.

One bantamweight that won't be seen as a future opponent for either man is Mike Richman. "The Marine" had won two out of his last three since moving down to 135 pounds, but tested positive for banned substances after a loss to Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 137.

Bellator opted to cut Richman loose and not wait out the two year duration of his suspension, but he's not the only baggage the promotion shed on their trip from London, England, back to the states.

MMA Junkie reports that seven fighters have been cut from Bellator's roster this week including some other familiar names. Popular light heavyweight and former UFC star Houston "The Assassin" Alexander got his walking papers after only one win in the promotion dating back to 2013.

Also on the chopping block: former No. 1 lightweight contender Dave Jansen, former middleweight tournament finalist Mikkel Parlo, boxer turned MMA fighter Raphael Butler, former "King of Pancrase" Isao Kobayashi, and a man who had only recently debuted in the promotion in Thiago Jambo.

The latter move might have been a necessity anyway given Jambo announced his retirement via social media.
