Eddie Alvarez slams UFC 202 main event: Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor is bulls--t freakshow fight

Most folks in the mixed martial arts (MMA) community are looking forward to the upcoming UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which takes place on Aug. 20, 2016 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (full fight card here).

Most, but not all.

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who also held gold under the Bellator MMA banner, doesn't like that his employers have dumped so much money into a pair of "overhyped" and "overpaid" faux-lightweights like Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor.

From his spot on The MMA Hour:

"I'll be there with a bull horn ringside to that freakshow. The least-best lightweights in the division and they are the highest paid. It's bullshit. These guys are making the highest dollars, they are both considered lightweights, I guess. They are making the highest dollars of all of us and you have guys like Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, myself, like real top-level guys who are just kind of getting by. These two guys need to get taken out and taken out viciously so we can get some of that money."

I guess it beats a "gimme fight."

McGregor -- who lost to Diaz back in March -- gets preferential treatment because he can move the PPV needle and shut down entire countries. Alvarez, meanwhile, captured the crown at the UFC Fight Night 90 event last week, which aired on the UFC Fight Pass digital network.
