After more than five years away from mixed martial arts (MMA), Brock Lesnar made a surprise return to the Octagon tonight (Sat., July 9, 2016) against long-time -- and very dangerous -- combat sports veteran, Mark Hunt, in the co-main event of UFC 200, which took place inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And it turned out to be a smart -- and very lucrative -- decision. Indeed, the former Heavyweight champion -- and current World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar -- executed a near-perfect gameplan. He avoided the enormous punching power of the Polynesian at all costs, which included slipping a few looping hooks that would have knocked out an elephant, and got the match on his terms whenever possible: On the ground.

No, it wasn't always pretty. But, Lesnar was able to takedown a very experience fighter, one who isn't all that easy to get to the canvas in the first place. And once he got him there he was relentless, smothering Hunt and pinning him to the apron as he uncorked his brand of ground-and-pound.

Lesnar would eventually win the bout on all three judges scorecards (29-27, 29-27 and 29-27). When pressed during his post-fight interview about whether or not he pursue another fight inside the Octagon, Lesnar refused to give a concrete answer. Perhaps the mystery of Lesnar is an integral part of his appeal, which the cross-over star has leveraged throughout his separate careers.

One thing is for certain: If he does return for another go-round, it will have to be a big event. And there is nothing bigger left on the fight calendar than the promotion's New York City debut at UFC 205 in Nov. 2016.

Just sayin.'
