finally unfolded last night (Sat., July 9, 2016) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In one of the more fan-friendly contests of the main card, current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion went toe-to-toe with former UFC champion , who was filling in for on two day notice.
Despite taking on one of the more dominant fighters in the sport today, Silva looked fairly good against Cormier. He was forced to fight off his back for the majority of the contest, but "The Spider" landed some good strikes on the feet, including a knee to Cormier's stomach in the third round that keeled the champ over.
However, "DC" was simply too powerful in top position and did more than enough to earn the unanimous decision victory.

While a victory over Silva doesn't do much for Cormier's title reign at 205 pounds, he just defeated the best pound-for-pound fighter of all time. As for Silva, he earned all the respect in the world -- as if he didn't already have it -- by taking on Cormier on short notice.
