Reports coming out of Makhachkala, Dagestan, indicate retired Featherweight mixed martial artist (MMA), Shahbulat Shamhalaev, was the target of a restaurant shooting in Makhachkala, Dagestan. The five-time Bellator MMA competitor (and tournament winner) and M-1 fighter, was dining in a restaurant in the capital when a man walked in holding an assault rifle, joined by a man armed with a pistol.
Security footage shown above, which, fortunately for the squeamish, doesn't actually show anyone getting hit with bullets, shows numerous gunshots being fired before the two assailants ran out.
The only known victim at the moment is Shamhalaev, who is in intensive care in a local hospital where he lost a kidney and is suffering from other (five total) gunshot wounds. Russian website, ndelo.ru, is reporting that the unfortunately nicknamed "Assassin" is in stable condition despite the horrendous attack. This picture from Russian social media site VK purports to show the wounded fighter in the hospital.
It seems as though he's lucky to be alive.
