The unthinkable has happened!
Michael Bisping finished Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight king Luke Rockhold last night via first-round knockout at UFC 199 live on pay-per-view from The Forum in Inglewood, California. He did so on the back of perfectly timed left hooks and a few extra shots to finish the champion along the cage.
As you can imagine, Bisping's victory sparked massive reaction around the combat sports world. Here is some of the Twitter talk captured after "The Count" earned his first promotional championship:
Bisping just broke the Internet! Wow! #UFC199— Chris Wade (@CWadeMMA) June 5, 2016
Mann... Congrats to Bisping. I'll be waiting in MSG for you to hand me over that belt. Good job.— Chris Weidman (@ChrisWeidmanUFC) June 5, 2016
When another man step inside the octagon to fight you,he deserve that you take him seriously. Congrats Michael Bisbin! Amazing performance— Rafael dos Anjos (@RdosAnjosMMA) June 5, 2016
Bisping leaves a movie set 17 days ago and tonight comes in and knocks out a guy who really looked like he would reign for some time. MMA.— Jon Anik (@Jon_Anik) June 5, 2016
HOLY F*CK did that really just happen!!!!!! Congrats @bisping what a crazy time to be ALIVE! 10 yrs in the UFC and finally gets a shot— Brendan Schaub (@BrendanSchaub) June 5, 2016
Unfortunately, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani didn't even get a chance to see it:
I was escorted out of the building by Zuffa staff before the main event. Credential taken away, too. Didn't see Bisping realize his dream.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) June 5, 2016
With this victory, Bisping's storied career will certainly land him in the UFC Hall of Fame when it's all said and done. And just like Weidman had posted, the Englishman may defend his title for the first time against the former champion at UFC 205 in New York City.
