Dan Henderson and Hector Lombard were both seeking redemption tonight (Sat., June 4, 2016) at UFC 199, which took place inside The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., looking to get back in the win column after suffering recent setbacks.
Lombard, who was competing at 185 pounds for the first time in more than three years, has a lot more work to do after suffering a devastating second round knockout loss.
Henderson came out of his corner in typical fashion, his "H-Bomb" cocked and ready to fire. Lombard, though, did not seem overly concerned, carefully stalking Henderson around the Octagon looking to land a hard shot of his own. Henderson rocked Lombard with a hard right hand that wobbled the Cuban and he followed it up with a high kick. He was a bit over eager though as Lombard, wounded, landed a heavy shot, which he followed up with a toss. Lombard followed him to the mat and angled for a kimura, which Henderson escape; however, he could not escape the thunderous shots from Lombard that came reigning down after. Lombard landed a huge left hook that dropped Henderson, who somehow remained conscious. He was able to work his way back up the fence, but ate several more punches as he tried to clear the cobwebs. The pair ended the explosive back-and-forth round on the floor with Lombard on top, probably wondering how Henderson is still there.
Lombard started the second round with a nice kick upstairs as Henderson barely missed with a huge overhand right. Then Henderson landed a head kick of his own, which stunned Lombard, and then in the same sequence, dropped him with a back elbow to the temple. Lombard immediately crashed to the canvas, unconscious, as Henderson landed a vicious elbow to his face before referee Herb Dean could pull him off.
Incredible! Henderson, 45, took Lombard's best shots and proved, once again, that he has lead in his fists ... and feet. During his post-fight speech, he indicated that it could be his last fight, but stopped short of announcing his official retirement. But, if it is indeed his farewell fight, it was fucking epic.
