Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contender Ryan Jimmo passed away yesterday (Sun., June 26, 2016) from injuries sustained during a hit-and-run incident in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The mixed martial arts (MMA) community poured out its support for Jimmo's family in their time of mourning, and now UFC has done the same with this official statement:
UFC is saddened to learn of the passing Ryan Jimmo. Jimmo, 34, fought for the organization seven times between 2012-2015, earning performance bonuses in two of those bouts. UFC sends its condolences to Jimmo's family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.
UFC president Dana White also took the time to pay respect to Jimmo on social media.

"Real Deal" last competed inside the Octagon against Francimar Barroso in May 2015, losing via unanimous decision. During his three-year run with the promotion, Jimmo -- who was beloved by the MMA community thanks to his infectious smile and personality -- racked up a 3-4 record.
Edmonton police are still on the lookout for the suspects responsible for Jimmo's death.
