In a matchup of promising Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight prospects, Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Thibault Gouti went toe-to-toe last night (Sat., June 18, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 89 live on FOX Sports 1 from the TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Canada.
As the biggest underdog on the card, Gouti had his work cut out for him, especially considering how athletic Aubin-Mercier has become. To little surprise, Aubin-Mercier utilized his strong wrestling pallet to negate the Frenchman's powerful striking, although Gouti landed some good combinations to end the first.
On the heels of great control in top position and penetrating short elbows, Aubin-Mercier grappled his way to a third-round submissions victory by way of rear naked choke.

With this victory, Aubin-Mercier is able to get back on track in the 155-pound division. He continues to show his potential and should slowly creep towards the top 15 sometime in 2017.
