Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight No. 1 contender, Alexander Gustafsson, will make his Octagon return as part of the UFC Fight Night 93 mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Hamburg, Germany, set for Barclaycard Arena on Sept. 3, 2016.
"It's on, me against my Polish friend Jan Blachowicz at UFC Hamburg," Gustafsson wrote on Facebook. "Cant wait to get back in that cage. See you guys in Germany."
Gustafsson (16-4), absent since last October, is still ranked No. 4 at 205 pounds; however, it hasn't been all champagne and roses for "The Mauler." In fact, the towering Swede is just 1-3 since 2012 and came up short in a pair of championship title fights.
He needs a win ... badly.
Blachowicz (19-5) had some issues of his own in 2015, dropping back-to-back fights by unanimous decision. Fortunately for the Polish power puncher, he was able to rebound with a decision win of his own against the venerable Igor Pokrajac last April.
Fun fight. Early predictions?
UFC Fight Night 93 will be headlined by the heavyweight bangfest between former UFC heavyweight champions in Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett. Elsewhere on the card, light heavyweight bragging rights are on the line as Ryan Bader collides with Ilir Latifi.
See you this September on UFC Fight Pass!
