Rory MacDonald expects to fight UFC champ Robbie Lawler 'multiple times'

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Brain cells are soooo overrated.

Despite falling into an 0-2 hole against reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, top division contender Rory MacDonald expects a third -- and perhaps even fourth and fifth -- dance with the "Ruthless" striker.

"Red King" talks to FOX Sports:

"I wouldn't be surprised at all if me and Robbie fight another couple of times. I really don't know how much time he has left in his career, but I know I have many fights left at the top of the sport. If he's still around in a few years, I wouldn't be surprised if we fight multiple times. I've been working at a lot of my weaknesses and making a lot of improvements and I think that's really going to show in this next fight."

He's not getting anywhere near Lawler unless he first gets past Stephen Thompson here.

MacDonald was probably on his way to a unanimous decision victory over the champ at UFC 189; however, Lawler -- like he so often does -- went into full rage mode in the fifth and final round, smashing and trashing the Canadian phenom until the fight was mercifully stopped.

But it's not like we need a good excuse for another go-round these days...
