Bellator 156: "Galvao vs. Dantas" comes to Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif., on June 17, 2016. The main event is the latest attempt to rematch the current bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao against former champ Eduardo Dantas.
Until recently, the co-main event of Bellator 156 was a welterweight match pitting Chidi "Bang Bang" Njokuani against former champion Douglas "The Phenom" Lima. Josh Koscheck withdrew from Bellator 158 however and Lima stepped up to take his place against Paul Daley.
That swap left Njokuani (14-4) without an opponent until the recent announcement that Thiago Jambo (18-4, 1 NC) would take the fight on short notice and make his Bellator MMA debut in the process.
The 35 year-old Jambo was last seen at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 21 last June in Edmonton picking up a win over Matt Baker. The Pitbull Brothers prospect has earned a reputation as a tough out in winning 61-percent of his fights (11 out of 18) by decision.
Njokuani is a kickboxing and MMA striker who prefers not to battle on the ground, picking up seven out of 12 wins (58 percent) by knockout in the former and eight out of 14 wins (57 percent) in the latter. He's also undefeated in his last six fights dating back to August 2013.
