"I was pretty upset that he took the fight against a project manager, when he wouldn't wait a couple weeks to get an actual legitimate fight. A fight that the fight fans and everybody else, the boss, everybody wanted this fight. I wanted this fight."
A much-anticipated Lightweight scrap between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson was put on hold after "El Cucuy" was forced to bow out of the matchup -- which was set for on April 16, 2016 -- after it was discovered he had fluid in his lungs. Of course, Tony -- who desperately wanted to take on "The Eagle" -- lobbied with Khabib to hold off for a few months and re-schedule. Instead, Nurmagomedov opted to remain on UFC on FOX 19 to face Octagon newcomer, Darrel Horcher. Nurmagomedov went on to defeat Horcher via second-round technical knockout; which didn't impress Tony the least. After all, as Tony told MMA Junkie, that's what you'd expect when to opt to face a project manager instead of a legit contender. But, with Khabib on a break from fighting due to Ramadan, Ferguson can perhaps score another booking against him should manage to take out Michael Chiesa when the two headline UFC Fight Night 91 on Weds., July 13, 2016 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
