Outside of Michael Bisping himself and a handful of hopeful onlookers, few mixed martial arts (MMA) fans and enthusiasts believed "The Count" could dethrone Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 this past Saturday (June 4, 2016) to claim his first promotional title.
Heck, even Bisping's own kids picked Rockhold to win the short-notice championship rematch.
As history would have it, Bisping did have enough in the tank to outshine Rockhold on the feet, knock the champion out, and claim the 185-pound belt.
In a recent edition of UFC's The Trill & Agony, which can be seen above, Bisping can be caught belittling Rockhold after putting him to sleep. Keep in mind, Rockhold defeated the Englishman back at UFC Fight Night 55 via second-round submission, creating a boiling vat of bad blood prior to UFC 199.
"Unlucky, buddy. Unlucky. Good fight," said Bisping when attempting to shake Rockhold's hand. "I told ya. Got lucky though. Good job."
Unfortunately for Rockhold, Bisping's banter continued to land below the belt.
"You're in the Octagon by the way," added Bisping. "It's OK. You'll come to."
Harsh words for a guy who was put to sleep by Rockhold just two years prior. It goes to show you how capable fighters are of riding their highs and completely forgetting about the lows.
While this isn't a complete shock considering Bisping has had his verbal outbursts in the past, it's a shame the two Middleweight fighters couldn't bury the hatch when the opportunity called for it.
