Arguably the biggest name in boxing since the departure of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez took to the ring last night (Sat., May 7, 2016) to defend his Ring and WBC Middleweight championship titles live on HBO pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
His opponent, Amir Khan, was moving up two weight divisions to challenge the heavy-handed Mexican superstar. Khan was supposed to have a speed advantage coming into Saturday's highly-anticipated bout, but it didn't matter all that much when the final blow landed.
On sheer timing and unprecedented punching power, Alvarez knocked Khan out cold in the sixth round with a devastating right cross. Khan's head clattered off the canvas, resulting in nearly two minutes of recovery time before the Brit was able to make it back to his feet.

It was quite the finish to say the least, and a feather in the cap of Alvarez heading into the second half of 2016. There's no disputing that he's beginning to carry boxing's torch at just 25 years of age.
