Here we go again!
Despite a recent statement by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White nixing the credibility of a report of a boxing match between current UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., it now seems as if the fight talks were less of a rumor than the combat world initially thought.
"He had told me the other day that he’s going to take another fight," said Floyd Mayweather Sr. in a recent interview with ESNews (shown above). "He told me it’s [going to be against] some kind of MMA fighter."
While "some kind of MMA fighter" covers a fairly broad spectrum, McGregor is the only fighter in the game that could possibly attract interest from Mayweather. After all, despite McGregor falling incredibly short in comparison to how much revenue "Money" produces, the two are the biggest cash cows in their respective sports.
"We’d beat the hell out of that man," added Mayweather Sr. "My son can whoop him. He’s dead."
McGregor would certainly be drawn out of his comfort zone in a matchup with one of the greatest boxers of all time, but it's a challenge the Irishman would probably entertain. Remember, McGregor was recently pulled from UFC 200. If anything were to happen, it would have to happen now.
