Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson has headlined three of his last four mixed martial arts (MMA) events, but he'll be forced to settle for co-main event when he throws hands with Glover Teixiera this summer.
That's according UFC.com, which rubber stamped their 205-pound showdown for UFC on FOX 20, locked and loaded for United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on July 23, 2016.
Johnson (21-5) came up short in his championship title fight against Daniel Cormier roughly one year ago, but managed to "Rumble" his way back into contention with consecutive knockout wins over Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader. One more is likely to get him another crack at the crown.
But it won't be easy.
Teixeira (25-4) went down on points to Jon Jones in 2014, then got wrestled into a follow up loss against Phil Davis. Undaunted, the Brazilian roared back with three straight wins -- all finishes -- over the top competition, including last month's knockout over Rashad Evans.
Who goes to sleep in the "Windy City?"
UFC on FOX 20 is likely to be headlined by the women's bantamweight showdown pitting former division titleholder Holly Holm against Peruvian "Bullet" Valentina Shevchenko. In lightweight action, Edson Barboza collides with Gilbert Melendez.
