GLORY has announced the co-main event and welterweight "Contender" tournament participants for GLORY 31, which takes place on June 25, 2016 at RAI Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The promotion's return trip to Amsterdam is headlined by a lightweight title fight between current title holder, Robin van Roosmalen (35-6) and No.1-ranked contender, Sittichai Sitsongpeenong (108-29-5). The bout is a rematch from GLORY 25, which saw "RvR" win a very controversial decision over "Killer Kid."
On Wednesday afternoon (May 4, 2016) via press release, the world's leading kickboxing promotion announced Ismael Londt (38-6-1) will face Hedsy Gerges (45-14-1) in a heavyweight contest, which will serve as the co-main event of the fight card.
Londt had an impressive debut at GLORY 29 by defeating Anderson Silva and Jahfar Wilnis to win the Heavyweight "Contender" tournament. Meanwhile, Gerges returns to the promotion after being released in November of 2014 due to being charged with drug trafficking. Those charges were recently annulled by The Court of Cassation in Belgium, which has allowed for Gerges to return to GLORY's Heavyweight division where he was ranked No.6 before he was released. In his last fight he lost a unanimous decision to Benjamin Adegbuyi at GLORY 18.
In addition to those two fights, the four fighters and semi-final matchups of the welterweight "Contender" tournament were also revealed. Yoann Kongolo (61-7) will face Harut Grigorian (50-9) and No.1-ranked contender Murthel "The Predator" Groenhart (58-20-3) takes on GLORY newcomer Karim "The Felin" Benmansour (N/A).
