Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo will collide at the upcoming UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Sat., July 9, 2016 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. At stake is the interim 145-pound championship, since Conor McGregor -- who captured the crown last December -- is too busy with this to defend his title.
The pair first went to war at UFC 156 in early 2013, when Aldo took home a close unanimous decision win over the former lightweight. It was Edgar's debut fight at 145 pounds and "The Answer" is not sure why "Junior" has been talking like it was a lopsided blowout.
From MMA Fighting:
"You're seeing it across the board in all weight classes. Guys are getting more vocal. They're just seeing what it's done for Conor, so they're trying to kind of make their voice heard. I think that's what Aldo is doing. I think he's just talking the fight up. People are trying to talk. He's just not that great at doing it, you know? He's just trying to create buzz, and I get what he's trying to do, but we all know he doesn't fight injured. And everybody talks about how our fight was close. He wants to sit there and have this false sense of security? Maybe that's why he's trying to talk like this, because he's dealing with this knockout loss. But, by all means, go ahead and go in there super confident."
Aldo was creamed just 13 seconds into the UFC 194 main event.
Until McGregor decides to make his return to featherweight -- which may happen sooner, rather than later if this doesn't work out -- the division will boast two titles (lots of that going around these days). Or, the promotion could opt to strip "Notorious" of the strap if he wants to continually dabble in super fights.
Time will tell.
