With 23 combined knockouts in 28 fights, Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt have firmly established themselves as some of the Bantamweight division's premier brutality artists. This Sunday (May, 29, 2016), the dynamic duo get to use each other as canvases when they headline UFC Fight Night 88, which will emanate live -- and free on FOX Sports 1 -- from inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Elsewhere on the card, Jeremy Stephens looks to spoil Renan Barao's arrival in the Featherweight division and Rick Story takes on Tarec Saffiedine in an excellent Welterweight showdown.
But, you already know all that. You're here to find out how to get some money out of it. As always, I'm here to help.
UFC Fight Night 88 Odds For The Undercard:
Sara McMann (-155) vs. Jessica Eye (+135)
Abel Trujillo (-320) vs. Jordan Rinaldi (+260)
Alberto Pereira (-125) vs. Jake Collier (+105)
Shane Campbell (-170) vs. Erik Koch (+150)
Aljamain Sterling (-440) vs. Bryan Caraway (+350)
Adam Milstead (-255) vs. Chris De La Rocha (+215)
The undercard this week is something of a barren wasteland in terms of tempting odds. The only fighter I see as being worth a look is Sara McMann, who’s up against a smaller woman with persistent wrestling issues.
McMann’s current skid includes losses to Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes, all of whom are physically strong and proficient grappling artists. Eye is neither. On the contrary, she's an undersized Bantamweight with solid boxing, but no stopping power. She simply doesn’t have the tools to stop McMann’s takedown offense -- one-note though it may be -- so be sure you’re in position to benefit.
UFC Fight Night 88 Odds For The Main Card:
Thomas Almeida (-155) vs. Cody Garbrandt (+135)
Tarec Saffiedine (-125) vs. Rick Story (+105)
Renan Barao (-185) vs. Jeremy Stephens (+160)
Vitor Miranda (-235) vs. Chris Camozzi (+195)
Lorenz Larkin (-130) vs. Jorge Masvidal (+110)
Paul Felder (-300) vs. Josh Burkman (+250)
Thoughts: Knock knock, it’s Rick Story, back to spoil another contender’s run.
"The Horror" has gone from a prototypical "tough out" to a force to be reckoned with, showing much improved power and a truly withering body assault. He’s coming off a long injury layoff, true, but is well-equipped to take out "The Sponge," who is technically brilliant but has the killer instinct of a dishcloth.
Go big on Story ... you won’t regret it.
Thomas Almeida and Jorge Masvidal round out this week’s best bets. Almeida struggled with Pickett because of "One Punch’s" constant head movement, an aspect of the game that Garbrandt sorely lacks. Further, the Team Alpha Male product lunges in with his punches and doesn’t have much striking variety beyond winging his left and right hand sequentially and hoping for the best. Against a buzzsaw like Almeida -- who is durable enough to slug it out with him and powerful enough to knock him silly in the process -- that’s a death sentence.
Masvidal, meanwhile, has a deceptively nasty wrestling game and the kickboxing acumen to keep up with Larkin’s grab bag attacks, not to mention his freakish durability. He’s worth a small investment, though do keep in mind that he’s had issues with volume in the past.
UFC Fight Night 88 Best Bets:
- Parlay -- Sara McMann and Thomas Almeida: Bet $40 to make $68.40
- Single bet -- Rick Story: Bet $60 to make $63
- Single bet -- Jorge Masival: Bet $30 to make $33
This is a really solid line up -- here's hoping we get some Memorial Day maulings to remember it by. See you Sunday, Maniacs!
