BJ Penn won't quit, promises to continue UFC comeback following USADA 'speed bump'

Esther Lin/ MMA Fighting

B.J. Penn was pulled from his comeback fight against Cole Miller -- which was set to go down on June 4, 2016 at UFC 199 -- after "The Prodigy" admitted to using an IV under a doctor's supervision.

A big no-no under the new United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) guidelines.

Still, Penn maintains he was unaware of the fact the rule was applicable year-round. Nevertheless, he recently told KHON2 (via FOX Sports) that he is fully aware that his ignorance should not go unpunished. That said, he doesn't plan on putting an end to his mixed martial arts (MMA) comeback after suffering yet another speed bump.

Or mandated suspension.

"I don't think it should be too long, because, I mean, ignorance of the rule is no excuse, but if it has nothing to do with banned substances, we're not doing anything with any performance enhancement, and I think they just gotta lay down the punishment for whatever they feel. It's just got to be a speed bump, but I've went way too far to say I'm exhausted at this point. It's amazing how my fights have just been getting pushed back. I guess this is just one more road bump, and I'm the best I've ever been. I'm doing great in the gym. I feel awesome. I don't think Greg Jackson would let me quit at this point. It's just amazing the way this all went down."

This obstacle is just the latest for Penn, who not only had to deal with an unexpected switch in foes, but also had to face allegations of sexual assault, which briefly halted his return.

Penn has not competed since July of 2014 after suffering a a technical knockout loss to Frankie Edgar, his third defeat at the hands of "The Answer."

But it sounds like Penn is determined to fulfill his comeback despite the many hurdles laid out on front of him. When he actually gets to finally step back inside the Octagon, remains to be seen.
