Will Brooks open to signing with UFC, confident he can win lightweight title

A few days after news broke that Bellator MMA had parted ways with its lightweight champion Will Brooks, "Ill" appeared on The MMA Hour to reveal that the move was an amicable one.

It's something most of us could see coming a mile away, as Brooks wasn't shy when expressing his displeasure with some of the promotion's moves on Twitter.

That said, now that the talented 155 pounder is a free agent, he is open to fielding all options. And if Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) comes knocking, "Ill" would gladly answer the door, as he is more than confident he can beat any lightweight in the organization; the champ included.

His words via MMA Fighting:

"I would never shy away from that. I've let people know plenty of times and I'll continue to say that. I believe that I can go out there and beat anybody in the lightweight division of the UFC and seize that title and be the man on top. I just have that belief in my body and I have that in my bones and I can feel it. I know I can do it. If that opportunity presents itself, I will definitely seize that moment. I will take that opportunity."

Brooks is currently riding an eight-fight win streak, winning 18 of 19 overall, so acquiring his services would be a big plus for any promotion.

For now, "Ill" is taking advantage of his free time to focus on his baby daughter and upcoming wedding. But he isn't exactly staying away from the gym, either, as he wants to be in shape in case an opportunity comes up.

And if he had his druthers, he's love to make his MMA return at UFC on FOX 20 in his hometown of Chicago on July 23, 2016.
