Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) looked to separate contender from pretender when Ronaldo Souza went head-to-head with Vitor Belfort in the UFC 198 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event on Sat. night (May 14, 2016) inside the massive Arena da Baixada soccer stadium in Curitiba, Brazil.
Souza in, Belfort out.
"Jacare" came out tentative in the first minute, slowly but surely trying to find his opening for the takedown. "The Phenom" repelled him at first, but the ground generalship of his Brazilian counterpart eventually prevailed. Once Souza got the fight to the floor, he was able to open up a cut, then beat Belfort to a bloody pulp.
The referee was forced to save the fading ex-champ before time expired.
