As exciting as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender Matt Brown is on his feet, he was never given the chance to showcase his striking opposite submission specialist Demian Maia tonight (Sat., May 14, 2016) at UFC 198 from the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.
For nearly 15-straight minutes, Maia rode Brown's back looking for the finish. Brown played it safe and defended when he could. But after Maia took Brown's back for the last time in the third round, "The Immortal" simply could not last any longer. Maia earned the rear naked choke victory and extended his win streak to five.
The finish can be seen below:

It's going to be difficult for the promotion to deny Maia a title shot moving forward. He hasn't necessarily beaten the best of the best at 170 pounds, but nobody has been able to ward off his ground advancements in quite some time.
As for Brown, he exits UFC 198 with his divisional stock in tact. Everyone knew what would happen if the Brazilian took his back.
