Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran and recent Bellator signee Wanderlei Silva was riding his bicycle (cue the Ms. Gulch soundtrack) when some shitty driver -- who was probably texting and not paying attention like I always do -- plowed into him and injured his shoulder.
From Silva's official Facebook account:
Please note that the Wand had an accident where he was hit by a car when he was returning by bicycle to his home after a workout, he ended up injuring his shoulder and undergoes surgery today. We ask your prayers for our champion. ASCOM
Silva's wife told MMA Junkie that surgery may not be a foregone conclusion and "The Axe Murderer" will wait to see the results of today's medical tests.
This is the second time this month an MMA fighter was struck by a vehicle and Silva is fortunate to be alive. Bellator's Jordan Parsons died early last week as a result of injuries incurred during a hit-and-run (more on that here).
The status on Wandy's participation in the upcoming Rizin event is unknown at this time.
