Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the pay-per-view (PPV) market this Saturday night (May 14, 2016) for a stacked mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card, set to go down inside the massive Arena da Baixada soccer stadium in Curitiba, Brazil.
That's where Fabricio Werdum will (finally) defend his heavyweight championship, as "Vai Cavalo" prepares to go five rounds (or less) against top division contender Stipe Miocic. In the UFC 198 co-main event, Ronaldo Souza and Vitor Belfort collide for a spot in the 185-pound pecking order.
Cris Cyborg, Mauricio Rua, and Demian Maia will also see action.

265 lbs.: UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic
Round 1: Werdum tossing out kicks early. Miocic with a low kick. Werdum answers in kind. Right hand by the champ, who avoids one in return and lands a low kick. One minute in. Good right cross from Werdum. Werdum looks for a low single, denied. 1-2 by Miocic. Two minutes in. Low kicks from Werdum. Miocic answers with a sneaky corkscrew uppercut. Werdum flurries, walks into a counter right. This teaches him nothing, as he immediately chases again and gets absolutely destroyed by another right hand. Fabricio Werdum is 100% out like a light and Stipe Miocic is your new UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Final result: Miocic def. Werdum by KO (punch)
185 lbs.: Ronaldo Souza vs. Vitor Belfort
Round 1: Souza on the advance, lands a body kick. Vitor jumps in for a knee and sprawls on the counter takedown. Souza shoots in on the fence, Vitor snuffs it out. One minute in. Vitor defends on the fence, then circles out. Souza shoots in behind a right hand and scores a takedown on the fence. Half guard for Souza, two minutes in. Short elbows from Jacare open up a cut beneath Vitor's right eye. Hard right hands follow and the referee pauses the action to check on the cut. No problems, so they resume. Souza passes to side control and Vitor scrambles to his feet, avoiding the armbar attempt in the process. Two minutes to go.
Souza pressing him against the cage, changes levels for a double-leg. Vitor surrenders guard and Souza starts dropping brutal ground-and-pound. Jacare basically walks into mount and starts drilling the former champion with brutal shots. Belfort just covering up as Souza slams home shots through the guard and he offers no protest when the referee steps in.

140 lbs.: Cris Cyborg vs. Leslie Smith (catchweight)
Round 1: Cyborg stalking forward, winging right hands. Low kick, stiff jab. Body shot. Cyborg tears Smith up with a body kick and series of punches that send the durable veteran down. Smith tries to roll, but is so out of it that she offers no defense to the followup hammerfists.
Final result: Justino def. Smith by TKO (punches)
205 lbs.: Mauricio Rua vs. Corey Anderson
Round 1: Shogun on the front foot, tosses out leg kicks. Anderson moving well, circling away from danger. Low kick from the Brazilian. Right hand lands for him inside. Low kick afterwards. One minute in. Anderson not checking kicks at the moment, probably not the best idea. Counter right from Shogun. Lead right connects this time around. Two minutes in. Shogun working well behind his jab. Low kicks again after getting countered on the uppercut. Anderson catches a low kick and flurries on the way up. Flying knee attempt into the clinch. Two minutes to go.
Anderson tries to change levels, settles for knees and a right hand through the guard. Left hook lands for Shogun, who eats some shots from Anderson and throws heat in return. One minute to go. Left hook by Anderson. Low kick connects. Straight right soon after; Anderson loosening up, landing good punches. Left hook takes out Anderson's legs and Shogun tries, but can't pound him out before the bell. 10-9 Rua.
Round 2: The two get right to trading inside, neither landing clean. Low kick lands for him, Anderson comes back with a solid combination. Anderson ducks a right hand and takes him down into half guard. Anderson drops a hard right hand, but allows Shogun to stand on the fence. Anderson pressing him into the cage, separates. Two minutes in. Shogun sprawls on a shot, Anderson keeps driving and takes him back to the cage. Knee from Shogun as he defends. Elbows on the break by Anderson. Two minutes to go.
Shogun stops the next shot. He can't stop the one after that, but manages to get to his feet on the cage. They separate with a minute to go. Low kick from Shogun, who drops Anderson with a right hand at the bell. 10-9 Rua.
Round 3: Low kick from Shogun to start. Counter right by Shogun. Anderson shoots and eventually wrangles Rua into half guard. One minute in. Anderson staying on top. Two minutes in. Still going. Two minutes to go.
Shogun makes it back to his feet, Anderson still attached. One minute to go. Anderson continues to grind. He shoots in at the bell. 10-9 Anderson.
170 lbs.: Bryan Barberena vs. Warlley Alves
Round 1: Alves comes out on the attack and forces Barberena's head down on the fence, immediately latching onto the guillotine and pulling guard. Barberena gives the thumbs-up, lands a few short right hands, and pulls his head free. Barberena presses him against the cage and snuffs out another attempt. One minute in. Alves works his way back up as Barberena works short knees. Alves separates and just misses with a wheel kick. Barberena swings heavy as Alves backs him up. Two minutes in. Alves with a head kick and right hands into the clinch. Barberena looking for short elbows. Alves rips to the body. Barberena giving ground but doing fairly well. Two minutes to go.
Good body kicks by Alves with an uppercut in the midst. Elbow by Barberena on the exit. Low kick trips Alves up. One minute to go. Alves to the body, then up top with the right hand. Barberena keeping up the short elbows. Separation. Low kicks from Barberena and a right hand. Alves eats a knee in the clinch. 10-9 Alves.
Round 2: Body kick from Alves to start. Barberena staying busy. Right hand by the Brazilian, elbow by Barberena. Body kick and right hands in return from the now-cut Alves. Alves doing well to the body, eats some counters. One minute in. Another body kick, Barberena answers in kind. Alves tries to tie up, cannot do so, lands a body kick and eats a groin shot. They trade body kicks. Barberena jumps in, gets clinched. Sneaky elbow on the exit, then another body kick. Alves looks winded. Hard left uppercut by the American, then a right hook. Round 3: Alves comes out throwing and Barberena obliges him. Barberena tries a jumping switch kick and slips, allowing Alves to grab the front headlock. Barberena slips out and makes it to his feet, looking for short elbows. One minute in. Now pressing Alves against the cage. Foot sweep on the exit. Alves goes back to the body kicks. Barberena with a flurry inside. Two minutes in. Alves lands a flying knee through the guard, eats elbows. They jockey for position inside. Barberena separates with an elbow. Good shots by both men in the center. Two minutes to go.
Rock-em-sock-em in the center, Alves' winging blows against Barberena's constant flurries. Barberena to the body after eating a right hand. Good hook lands for him. One minute to go. Barberena continues to advance and throw, walking through return fire. BIG shots by both men. Alves whiffs on a surprise wheel kick. Barberena unloading on the fence. Alves clubs him with counters as they continue their exchange. 10-9 Barberena.

170 lbs.: Demian Maia vs. Matt Brown
Round 1: Brown opens with his hands low and flicks out punches. 30 seconds later, Maia scores with a double leg takedown against the fence. Brown tries to stand, and Maia begins the transition into back mount. It takes a minute, but Maia eventually advances into full back mount with Brown standing up. Using the body lock, Maia forces his opponent to the mat and maintains back control. Now in complete control, Maia attacks with strikes and hunts for the rear naked choke. As Maia transitions towards an arm bar, Brown counters wisely and ends up in top position with 30 seconds left. However, he cannot get any offense off before the bell.
Round 2: Maia fails on his first two takedown attempts but succeeds on the third. The Brazilian immediately moves into back mount. Brown momentarily shakes Maia off but Maia immediately retakes the back. Brown controlling his opponent's wrist but doing little else. Brown attempts to explode out of the position but nearly gives up his neck in the process. Maia landing hard elbows from back mount. Once more, he attempts the arm bar at the end of the round but cannot land it.
Round 3: Maia takes a couple of poor shots but lands with a left cross. Brown tries to follow his opponent to the mat, but it allows Maia to force a grappling exchange. It takes a moment, but Maia wins the scramble and lands in top position. For the third or fourth time, Maia takes his opponent's back as he tries to stand. Maia pounds his opponent with right hands from back control. With about 40 seconds remaining, Maia finally succeeds in getting under his opponent's chin and forces the submission finish.
Final result: Maia def. Brown via rear naked choke in the third
155 lbs.: Yancy Medeiros vs. Francisco Trinaldo
Round 1: Trinaldo immediately closes the distance and nearly lands a clinch takedown, but Medeiros shows off his takedown defense. Medeiros eventually fights off the double underhooks and turns his opponent into the fence looking for a takedown. Neither man can finish the shot, and the two trade attempts until the halfway point in the round. Medeiros more active at range with long punches and kicks, but Trinaldo committing to his power shots and landing as well. Trinaldo beginning to land hard and rocks the Hawaiian in the final minute. Medeiros was badly hurt, but he stayed on his feet and brawled till the end of the round.
Round 2: Trinaldo opens up with more aggression and scores early. Medeiros returns with a pair of right hands. The Brazilian looking a bit tired, having spent a lot of energy at the end of the round. Medeiros scores with a body kick. Trinalgod slips and rips with his long left hook. Medeiros shoots in for a takedown but Trinaldo defends. Both men trade in the center of the Octagon. Trinaldo scores with a body kick. Medeiros starts putting together combinations with a minute remaining, scoring to the body. Medeiros stalking his opponent and drops him with a big right hand with 10 seconds remaining.
Round 3: Medeiros stalking his opponent and looking for the right hand. Trinaldo scored with some low kicks. Medeiros catches a kick and scores with a pair of right hands. The Brazilian lands a big left and a body kick. Trinaldo hurts his opponent with a pair of overhands, and the two brawl against the fence. Medeiros falls to the mat at the end of an exchange. Trinaldo smashing his opponent with strikes from top position before slowly climbing up to his feet. However, he's not really back up and stumbles back to the mat. Medeiros somehow scrambles into top position. He maintains top position and finishes the round landing some elbows.
Final result: Trinaldo def. Medeiros via unanimous decision (2 x 30-26, 29-27)
185 lbs.: Nate Marquardt vs. Thiago Santos
Round 1: Santos opens with a couple hard kicks. A body kick lands hard. And a low kick. Marquardt returns with a low kick of his own. Marquardt defending himself reasonably well but hasn't land much of his own. There's a massive red mark across Marquardt's side/back. Santos scores with a left hook and drops Marquardt as he tries to push into the clinch. Marquardt recovers and works back up to his feet. The Brazilian follows him with a hard body kick, pinning him to the fence. From there, he tee'd off on Marquardt with a flurry and finished the bout with an overhand.
Final result: Santos def. Marquardt via KO inside the first
135 lbs.: Rob Font vs. John Lineker
Round 1: Font opened up with plenty of kicks, but Lineker scores with the first hard strike of the bout. Font sticks Lineker with a 1-2. Lineker lands a couple body shots with his opponent along the fence. Font continues to circle away from his opponent. Lineker scores with a right to the body and left hook high. Lineker sweeps his opponent with a hard low kick, but Font stands immediately. Font lands couple of jabs. Lineker starting to find his range and rips to the body. Font slips and winds up on his back with 40 seconds remaining. Font works back to his feet and absorbs so more body shots before the end of the round.
Round 2: Lineker scores early with a hard left hook and five low kicks in the opening minute. Font's jab is landing a bit more now. Lineker's body-head combo lands once more. He's finding a lot of success with his long left hook. Lineker flurries with Font's back to the fence and ups his pressure. Font lands a knee then circles off. Lineker shoots for a single leg and nearly finishes the shot. Font responds in time and has a nice entrance but cannot finish. Lineker continues to stalk and eats an uppercut. Returns to his low kicks -- which he had abandoned -- and scores well. Slower pace than the first but still a clear round for the Brazilian.
Round 3: Lineker digs into the thigh to start once again. Font trying to move forward behind his jab but is taking low kicks. Lineker eats a stiff jab. Lineker goes to the body well a couple times with wide shots. Lineker kicks to the leg and body. Lineker back to stalking and scores with a combo of punches. Font surrenders top position to avoid getting clobbered by a chasing Lineker. He takes some ground strikes and kicks his opponent off with two minutes remaining. Lineker catches the kick and puts him back down. Scores with some elbows then advances to side control. Font scrambles back to his feet once more with about 40 seconds remaining. Lineker wants a brawl and tries to wave him in. Lineker catches him with a big shot and flurries to the bell.
Final result: Lineker def. Font via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-26)
205 lbs.: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Patrick Cummins
Round 1: Both men come out in low stances. Nogueira stuffs his foe's first takedown attempt. Cummins scores with a couple low kicks. Cummins working his outside kicking game reasonably well, as Nogueira's punches have yet to reach him two minutes in. Nogueira finally scores with a combination at the halfway point of the round, but Cummins slows him down with a takedown attempt. Cummins scores a with a few more kicks, but Nogueira lands a couple uppercuts in the clinch. Cummins is stunned by a right hook and his knees wobble. Nogueira follows up with more punches, and Cummins makes the poor decision of trying to trade with the experienced boxer. He swallows a few more hard shots before shooting for a takedown. This momentarily stalls the beating, but Nogueira eventually separates and forces the standing TKO finish.
Final result: Nogueira def. Cummins via TKO in the first
170 lbs.: Sergio Moraes vs. Luan Chagas
Round 1: Chagas opens with a big flurry that is largely blocked before defending a takedown. Chagas advancing and lands some kicks. Moraes not throwing much two minutes in. Chagas landing well with kicks, stuffing his opponent's attempts to move forward. Moraes starts to open up and scores with a hard uppercut and some kicks. Both men landing from range. Suddenly, a head kick drops Moraes, and Chagas lets him stand back up. Despite falling badly, Moraes seems to recover well with less than a minute remaining. Chagas stalks him till the end of the round.
Round 2: Moraes starts the second with some aggression and tags his opponent with an overhand and left hook. Chagas backs him off with a combination and goes back to kicking. Two minutes into the round, Chagas beginning to slow down a bit. Moraes goes on the offensive, scoring and pushing into the clinch, where he continues to strike. With about two minutes remaining, Moraes catches his opponent ducking and jumps guard into a guillotine. Chagas hand fights well to escape but is stuck in his foe's guard. Chagas hunkers down, and the fight is stood back up. Moraes initiates a takedown exchange and crazy scramble, and it ends with him on top. "The Panther" scores with some elbows before the bell.
Round 3: Chagas firing at the start of the round but eats a knee to the mid-section. Moraes snaps him down with a front head lock with plenty of time remaining. Chagas does a nice job retaining guard for a minute or so before Moraes advances into half guard. Moves into side control and then turtle. Slips in a hook and hunts for the arm triangle choke, but Chagas defends. Moraes eventually slips off the back but there's not enough time for Chagas to really capitalize.
Final result: Moraes and Chagas battle to a split draw (29-28, 28-29, 28-28)
145 lbs.: Renato Moicano vs. Zubaira Tukhugov
Round 1: Tukhugov starts with his hands low and Moicano stalks. Moicano lands a decent low kick, but Tukhugov takes advantage of his speed and lands some powerful shots. Moicano looking to counter and jab. With about two minutes remaining, Tukhugov lands a takedown into the full guard. He's forced to fight off a triangle choke. The two scramble with a thirty seconds remaining, and the Brazilian nearly takes his opponent's back. Very close round.
Round 2: Moicano's corner yells at him to up the volume between rounds, and he listens a bit. Moicano landing some hard low kicks. The Russian is getting a bit more wild and throwing less as his opponent controls the center of the Octagon. Neither man landing anything too clean. Moicano lands some nice kicks to end the round and likely seals it in his favor.
Round 3: Moicano more aggressive to start the round, walking his opponent down with kicks and punches. Zukhugov landing as well, but throwing less strikes. Zukhugov looks for a couple of takedowns, but he cannot hold his opponent down. Moicano lands a step knee to the body. Zukhugov is definitely slowing down, but he keeps his composure and stays in the fight. Both men raise their arms at the end of a close bout.
Final result: Moicano def. Zukhugov via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29)
